Of the intersecting lives

Hey there! How have you been? I am going to write this post as a diary. Perhaps a little self introspection would be beneficial for both of us. Among other things I often wonder what if our lives had never crossed paths with each other. Had it not been for that train journey, our trajectories were wildly different. I was engrossed with my own stuff while your plans were unknown to me. I found you intriguing, curiosity swept over me. I wanted to get to know you, and I took it as a challenge onto myself that I will get you to open up to me, almost everyone does, I have a trustworthy face. Do you regret not opening up to me? The end result is the same even now.

With some people you never feel anger towards them. She was one of them. Despite hurting me in more than a hundred ways, I never did feel angry at you. I can attribute it to your cuteness, your short height which makes you look younger than your age but I think the real reason remains that our paths were never meant to cross with each other. You were nothing but a distraction, a test for me, in which I failed rather spectacularly. It was a test of my newfound strength and a test of my resolve. It was the first real world practical after my training. Miserably failed and learned my lesson but it was a rather expensive lesson to be honest.

So having learnt my lesson now, I find that my worldview has become dichotomous. I am patient as well as really in a hurry, both at the same time. The numbers are not on my side but when have they been? My thoughts have been either 50 years too young or 50 years too old. See with this blog only. The art of writing is slowly dying. People may write for themselves but what sells and grabs the most eyeballs is vile, mundane, mass produced pieces of paragraphs, world would have been better without. A good writing piece or a novel for that matter, in my opinion, should give you perspective. It is in a short supply these days and mine has been clouded by repeated losses, one after the other. I desperately need a win. It was a lack of perspective that rendered me idea-less for blogs for a long time now. There were some sparks here and there but nothing good could come out of it.

Are American problems our problems?

Black lives matter, LGBTQ+, Gun violence, capitol hill seige, MeToo, Jeffery Epstein - I seem to know more about America's problems than ours. Why is that? I am not the one too active on social media nor do I particularly look out for American news. The Indian public discourse is the one to blame. We are being fed American news so much that our own problems seem to have obscured by the seemingly first world problems. Just imagine the stupidity of all this - a country whose 30% population still lives in poverty, whose average road network is still worse than that of Vietnam is talking about BLM on its national news. In a country where majority of youths are dissatisfied with their employment or lack thereof and depression coupled with identity crisis is rampant, we are talking about LGBTQ in our editorials. At the risk of sounding transphobic - I fucking do not care whether a tans person has been called a hijhda by their neighbourhood uncle/aunty. Deal with it ! Our politicians are so mad they will give reservations to trans people if this discourse keeps on going like this.

There has to be some end to the stupidity of journalists who decide the public discourse. The Delhi Infrastructure is collapsing but there has been no news of it anywhere. We are just fed the Hindu vs Muslim , much on the lines of liberal vs democrat debate in US. The vile and poisonous public discourse is a boon for politicians who have it easy. They Win even local body elections not on the merits of their groundwork but on the perception war fuelled by communal and religious hatred. How does it matter to a remote village in Madhya Pradesh which is dealing with water shortage on what views does an MP from bengal have on Maa Kali? Ofcourse they must voice their dissatisfaction if they're hurt by her immature comments but please explain for once how can this become the entire agenda of an election when more pressing matters are screaming for attention.

This irony gets to me sometimes. On one hand we want the best professionals with fanciest degrees as the ones providing us services and simultaneously we get befooled so easily by the outright white lies and ridiculous promises like Rs 1500/month and free electricity. Where does the economic sense of people go when Delhi government continues taking out full page ads on fucking non issues, 3 minute television ads on every news channel during the primetime that too and wastes public money to the tune of thousands of crores. This is in a sense buying the silence of media houses on criticism. Whereas even minute details are being asked on policies from union ministers by the super intelligent tv anchors, why do they dumb themselves down when interviewing Mamta or kejri? These media houses are drowning in money yet they keep begging for subscription. And you have to really give it to the news anchors for they have mastered the art of verbal diarrhea - The art of incessant shouting and not even getting a single point across. And yet these bloody halfwits have more power than you or me to get things done.

Ah these ironies never end.

Anyhow, thanks for reading. And if you think I am transphobic, then no I am not. I watch lesbian porn.

Avengers : Infinity war is a disaster

I have just been back from the show of Avengers Infinity war and I have some scathing words for this movie. WARNING : SPOILERS AHEAD

I like to consider myself a moderate marvel fan. Because inconsistency in marvel universe quite evident with movies like thor: the dark world, guardians of galaxy biting the dust for good. But things took a serious turn for me after Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther. Absolutely fantastic movies that were the silver linings of 2017 and 2018 respectively. Infinity war was supposed to move the golden run forward but it just came crashing down on my expectations.

There are a multitude of things wrong with this movie but the biggest thing that was wrong with this movie was THANOS. Yes, the villain. He was the main weak link in the movie. Thanos is an underrated and under depicted character in this movie. A big blue hulk wearing a golden glove is what is served as the tormentor of Tony Stark since the events of New York. His voice is menacing but his features are soft. His serrated chin reminds me of WWE wrestlers who ultimately come out to be the good guys. But is he supposed to be a good guy? He has been pounded with all sorts of adjectives ranging from "devour-er of the worlds to madman". But we get a scene too where we see tears in his eyes. Are we supposed to feel his pain? And generate a misdirected affection for him. I don't think the directors were wanting to go there but unfortunately, they did. His dialogues do not complement his gigantic stature and his menacing voice. He feels rather timid for such a terrifying character.

Thanos is fighting each and every avenger in this movie in one scene or the other. He beats the hulk, kills loki like bottle gourd and petrifies Thor. And so do his children. Who dwell on enormous power and have excellent training in krav maga. They try to build up a narrative for thanos but are interrupted by ill-timed one liners from the ensemble cast. They don't get beaten up by a concoction of dr. strange, Iron man, spider man and bruce banner. If they could one Thanos' child Ebony Maw could have his own super villain movie dedicated to him for he makes cars fly at the flick of his finger. Such a marvellous villain dying from just being sucked into outer space.

corvus glaive
Coming to the outer space, although Ebony Maw froze to death in outer space, thor manages to survive cold and heat alike. A bit weird, no?? Well, everything going on with thor is weird. In Ragnarok it is evident that he learns how powerful he is and he doesn't need his hammer. As evident by the epic dialogue " Are you the God of hammer"? But in Avengers, his love for hammer is back and he feels rather timid facing enemies without his weapon. The new weapon he forges, gives him some additional power somehow. Like it's a sale season going on. Shop with you mastercard and avail 15% more discount. It's a mess. The directors forgot the basic essence of each and every character in this movie.

Black panther is undermined by his protective detail "Okoye". Such a fantastic character and a brilliant actor "chadwick boseman" is under utilised in this movie. Captain America gets a shield in shape of a leaf. He looks sexy in beard, fit for action but lack of his trademark shield is evident. You keep waiting for more of him throughout the movie. Actually you keep wanting more of every character in this movie but it never happens. The movie never evolves to something bigger. Just a cat fight between thugs and mall cops. You wish to see tony stark with his swanky gadgets and new technology but what do you get instead? A nanotechnoogy based suit. That somehow lasts for an eternity. Vision with the voive of Jarvis who showed some brilliant moves in age of ultron, limps throughout this movie. He doesn't even get a heroic death he deserved. Black widow, Col rhodes, flying man sam wilson, wanda, bucky all appear as a bunch of extras. No significant screen time or role. Peter Quill played by Chris Pratt is immature and irritating. His jokes are repetitive and maddening. Chris Pratt never feels comfortable in the skin of his character.

It's not as if the movie doesn't have its moments. It does. And great ones too. Like when Thor descends back to Earth to fight off Thanos' army when everyone else is being beaten pulp. He makes a magnificent entry. The whole crowd erupted in cheer as Thor plummeted the army with his new axe. 20 seconds later, it gets cut off and we again hear the same monotonous Thanos. Or his uninspiring and frankly boring fight with iron man and dr. strange. The fight looks so unreal that you just start yawning. Iron man survives when he is hit by a MOON. Yeah , you read it right a MOON! Like really?? The guy couldn't even lift sokovia himself in age of ultron. Fights seem more like mindless violence. Thanos army more like mutant lizards from a video game. 3D effects are dismal. Story line sucks. It doesn't even make any sense. We had Dr, Selvig who created a reactor with tesseract at its core to open up another dimension in the first avengers movie. But here dimensions get opened up at the drop of a hat. No scientific explanation, no logic. Felt like a bollywood masala movie.

Overall it was a big step down from the standards of a marvel movie. As a cinematic experience and as a story too. The movie lacked depth and characters were used more as props rather than beings. You never bond with any of the character. You never feel for them. Never connect with them. The Russo brothers directed both the captain america : The Winter Soldier And The Civil War, which are my least favourite marvel movies. Their confusion, lack of depth of characters, lack of emotions and cluttered direction has destroyed what could have been the greatest marvel movie ever.

P.S- There is no HULK in the movie. Poster makes a fool out of you. Bruce Banner gets Erectile Dysfunction And Can't Get it Up. Bruce banner is unable to turn into Hulk.

What works for the movie?
A script for tomfoolery in the second avengers movie.

EMAIL EXCHANGE WITH NESTLE

I wrote to nestle on maggi issue and well, I am atleast glad that they responded because in India nobody responds to email.
But I am not sure I am fully satisfied with their answer. Their answer is so twisted in words that I am not even sure I fully understand it.
Here’s the full conversation-

Sir/madam,
I have been following the events of the maggi fiasco and one thing i couldn't overlook was the fact that nestle had burnt packets of recalled maggi. It was in the headlines for quite some time. You reportedly spent around 30cr to burn maggi packets. That was just what i had read. Since this is a just general query and not any formal protest or something of that sort, I am not attaching any newspaper clipping with the email to back up my claim.
Nevertheless, i am inclined to know why did you burn those packets indeed if you claimed them to be safe?
Hope to you hear from you soon.

Reply from Nestle -

Dear Consumer,

Thank you for your email/query.

We would like to inform that we were asked by the regulator to recall the product and we have stopped selling it. In fact, before the order was issued, Nestlé India had announced it had stopped selling MAGGI Noodles. This is because concerns about the product led to confusion for the consumer to such an extent that Nestlé India felt it was necessary to take the product out of the market while we engage closely with the regulators and others to discuss the situation.

We have always maintained that MAGGI Noodles are safe based on more than 3500 tests conducted by Nestlé India. Moreover, Food Standards Authorities of USA, Canada, UK, Australia, & New Zealand and Singapore have also declared MAGGI safe for consumption.

Now, 100% samples of MAGGI Noodles have cleared additional tests for lead, done by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accredited labs in India, as ordered by the Hon'ble High Court of Bombay.

Test reports from the NABL accredited laboratories (https://www.maggi.in/result.aspx )
Testing done by Nestlé India (https://www.nestle.in/aboutus/ask-nestle/answers/maggi-noodles-india-test-results )
Read more about tests conducted by other countries. (https://www.nestle.in/aboutus/ask-nestle/answers/maggi-noodles-india-export)

We are committed to the safety of MAGGI Noodles and assure you that MAGGI Noodles have always been safe and will continue to be so.

We thank you for taking out time to write to us and we shall definitely plan to include factory tours as part of our resurrection plan

Looking forward to your continued support.

And to those wondering to whom else I emailed, it was Hindustan times who I don’t think open their emails at all. And McDonald’s who in my opinion should be flogged all the way back to America!

Here’s my email complaint to McDonald’s India-

Sir,
I want to bring to your kind attention the poorest of the poor quality of your products being served in your restaurants.
I bought McVeggie burgers today, which by the way are supposed to be your premium burgers but i was left aghast with what i had been served. Stale bun with oily patty and moreover the stale vegetables used inside the burger, i mean seriously who are you serving this for? And it's not the first time such thing is happening. The quality of Almost everything in your outlets has degraded substantially.
I think it's high time for you to reevaluate yourself and focus on the customer base you want to attract. But the meal served t today was absolutely un-eatable.
I have attached some pictures for your reference. And i am not complaining for today's incident only. This decline has been your trend from past several years. .
I hope McDonald's again reinstate their reputation by performing regular quality checks on every outlet.
---
Not heard from them till yet. It's been around 2-3 months.

Seriously, what junk are they serving to Indians? And what kind of people are we Indians are accepting and enjoying such junk? Maggi is flying off the shelves and McDonald’s chain is growing faster than ever. I think we are a bit too attached to everything. Especially the bad stuff. Maggi is back. So is Lalu. Just can’t believe that a convict in fodder scam is an elected representative. Hail Indians!

Disheartened by our society

Being 2015, we should have had almost been into the most advanced age. The James bond movies had predicted some serious high end technological advancements. What we have right now is a stupid, big, chunky phone that complicated our daily lives so much that apart from talking on it, we do every other thing a phone is not supposed to do. We should have had countered apocalypse, met aliens, had robots as servants and what not! We were supposed to redefine freedom.

But what we have is not short of hell breaking lose. People have gone from smart to being nuts! How did you think Kejriwal won then? Are Delhiites short of money? I know some of my friends spending close to a thousand bucks on getting a simple haircut. Still their parents want free water, free electricity? Sounds a bit a hypocritical to me. If you talk about the poor residing here, talk to a poor 20 year old. He wants everything but working towards earning it? Oh hell no, everybody wants to make a quick buck! Unruly statements from politicians, judges passing bizarre statements (that gay act), censor board creating a hypocritical environment, i just feel we are drifting back to stone age rather than progressing to a healthier future. We have got big fat ass religious conservationists who mind you are no use to religious sects whatsoever but create a ruckus when anyone tries to voice their opinions that might be against their preachings. Then sex! We are just going all bonkers on that matter. I fail to understand why people are afraid of human body and its nature. Actress sunny Leone is not able to lend a flat in Mumbai all because she had been in porn industry! Wow, you can shelter a terrorist but you find it ridiculous to rent a woman who has bared it on the camera! I find it totally ridiculous that Modi's politically campaign was backed heavily by the fact that he is a single man! That means the US president and The British prime minister are just ludicrous people who aren't able to function properly because they have a family at home, isn't that so?

The activities of stupid bajrang dal, even moral policing reaching its most bizarre levels , i really hope this is just a phase that we're passing by. Because frankly I don't any child to be raised among such freaks and later become the part of such freak show!

The outburst

A reward for everytime we do hardwork makes me wonder the quintessential difference between humans and dogs. The quotidian drudgery , can it really be acknowledged by a mere reward? The poultice is too small to minimise the acrid suffering we have to endure daily. Nevertheless, a trophy a day keeps the naysayers at bay! South Indians have thrived on this principle. And north Indians, well, they are catching up fast. A recent visit to a friend’s house triggered the bad flashbacks and one or two sleepless nights. Well, I can’t blame it entirely on her, my mom had also come to visit me…. :P

The trophies. The dreaded pre-competitive anxiety and the post competition jealousy! I haven’t been a competitive person at all from the beginning and liked to do things at my pace. So maybe that’s the reason I wasn’t selected in relay teams at all ! But in other competitions like extempore and essays, I would have been the favourite contender. Teachers would put their money on me and if I lost they looked as scornfully at me as the jealous single person looks at a couple kissing under the shade of a tree! But fortunately I did win some competitions. So, it was enough to get me a happy meal as my reward at home but the reward at school? It never satiated me. Even winning comes with side effects. I have had most horrible tales after winning. This one time, in a fancy dress competition I grabbed the first prize only to be told that I’d make a great post man (I had become a post man! ) . Of course, the headmistress corrected her statement. Besides, who in 2nd class would understand most of her English jargon? I was busy fiddling with my artificial specs that I was looking so cute while wearing ! Then this another time, I think in 6th I understood that cash prizes are more revered than lunch boxes, the hard way. This was a gruesome incident, I don’t want to make you people cry ! :P So, I better not divulge the details! ;) Again in 7th winning the first prize drove me into the sullen state that reeked of my misfortune. It was an extempore completion, the first prize were a trophy and some English educative CDs that were a fad back in those days. The 2nd was a set of Enid blyton novels and the third was that huge oxford dictionary with illustrations! I desperately wanted that 3rd prize but I came 1st! What could be more horrific? I don’t need a golden cup that I will have to keep cleaning for the rest of my life! So I decided, I would exchange my reward with the third runner up. He was more than happy to take a trophy home. I laughed at his knavery in my mind ! As I innocently told my mother about this achievement of mine, that I made such an awesome deal, she placed both her hands on her heads and MAYBE cursed herself at bringing out such a thing from her ! (Well, her sullen face made me wonder this. I hope I am right..but anyway :P)  The trophies were never my favourite. Why would I need a golden cup ? I can’t even drink my bournvita from that! And what would a 10 year old do with a cash prize? It would ultimately go to my mom daah! So unless you are to reward her for being a good mom, I think I would be more than happy to accept your dictionaries and books! Those eraser pens would have done too :P

I longed for a day that these competitions would be over  but they never do. Even now, I see not-so-innocuous competition among the inconsequential people on facebook to get a good picture of themselves in an insipid restaurant. Or a competition to stay above the rest in college and so on. I think the insolent monkeys are better at competing than we humans  -_- So that’s why I don’t like to be reminded that I was a monkey once, when my mother brought with her a trophy from class 8th I won for having a full attendance! She thought I could use some inspiration from that and start going to college more regularly! Her newfangled and wicked schemes to motivate me add to my misery. Now ,that trophy stares at me from the shelf box, reminding a great hunter past his prime, who he once was and what will never return to him! Her parsimonious acts have really made an impression this time.  And I just retire to my bedroom with only one thought in my mind- “I will get back at you mom! “ :P

Yo Madhya Pradeshis!

I had a pretty hard time adjusting to the new people here in Madhya Pradesh. These people just don't get any sarcasm. Not all but the ones I know. On twitter there is a whole new plethora of people with the wittiest and most sarcastic lines I have ever seen. And some of them are madhya pradeshis. But the ones with which I hang out, well, it's just suffice to say they found me an alien and I, well, I found them to be a vagina.
Here's some of the best instances where I used a common english phrase that were misunderstood and my humorous side was stomped with a hammer as big as Pamela Anderson's boobs!

#Situation 1

Me: Yeah.. I know right! Who could've imagined! I am just having the time of my life here in Bhopal !

Madhya Pradeshi : Time of your life??? What do you mean. Come clear.

Me to myself : Do these people still build wells around here? coz I gotta drown myself in one of them!

#Situation 2

Me:  I would like to take you out someday..

Madhya pradeshi : What?

Me: I mean I like you so.. was just hoping that we could hang around...

Madhya Pradeshi : What???? Love me? I don't know what to say... I hardly know you.. how can you like me?

Me: I meant you are a date-able person. That's why I didn't say I love you..

Madhya Pradeshi : So how can we go out together?

Me: I am sorry. What?

Madhya Pradeshi : Arre baba.. Only couples go out together.

Me: I think we have got ourselves in a fundamental standoff here. That's the whole concept of dating. You know, never mind, why don't we just hang around like friends?

Madhya Pradeshi : Hang around what?

Me to myself: Did she actually say this? No, this can't be true! How did she got my number? Bl-ee-ddyy whatsapp!

#Situation 3

Me: hey bro! What's up?

Madhya Pradeshi : everything's goin fine..So you are now talking to *****? What's going on man?

Me: That ain't none of your shit bro !

Madhya Pradeshi : huh?

Me: Huh?

Madhya Pradeshi : what did you say? I don't need to shit..

Me to myself : It's fair.Even Delhites couldn't connect to my 8 mile eminem photo on fb.

Me to him : I need to shit -_-

#Situation 4

Madhya Pradeshi : You know ***** mam was asking about your whereabouts. Why don't you come to college?

Me: Oh let it be! You know how busy I am.... And now you do realise how hot I am. Even teachers miss me !

Madhya Pradeshi : Oh please! You are an idiot for not coming to college...

Me: Oh damn you girl.. you found out about that so early :D

Madhya Pradeshi : Start coming to college regularly from now on!

Me: See.. even you can't resist me !

Madhya Pradeshi : And did you complete that file?

Me: Not really..

Madhya Pradeshi : You are really messing up hard! There's going to be problems...

Me: Just chill out lady. Those will be my problems. Don't sweat it man!

Madhya pradeshi : I don't sweat like a man! You know what? I am going to sit over there!

Me to myself : Oh god! This isn't funny anymore. Please get me a person who gets me!

#Situation 5

Me : So howz your gym routine going?

Madhya Pradeshi : Fine, I guess. But yours must be better, no? Afterall you get to see all girls!

Me: Yeah, it's a shame your gym has different timings for boys and girls...And FYI I don't watch girls, they watch me :D

Madhya Pradeshi : What's FYI? And yeah..yeah.girls watch you....ha!

Me to myself : Seriously? It wasn't even a phrase! No wonder these madhya pradeshis can only use TY as a short form for Thank you -_-

Me: FYI means fooling you instantly !

What kind of people Indians really are.

Indians are a peculiar race. They are the ones who have unique emotions and even a much more unique way of expressing them. And India is such a diverse country you can find all types of emotions here simultaneously. With variable opinions some of which are so extraordinary that they compel you to think about people all the more and the reason of their very existence on this earth.  Moving on with my ranting, these are some characteristics I found apt for Indians :

1)      Impulsive: Well, like people of any other place or nationality, we also are very emotional and impulsive people. But our emotions always flow over the top. Our actions and reactions to tiny situations are hyped like anything and they can be called unreasonable to some extent. A divorce in the family, wow! That’s something that everyone is interested in. A funeral. Well, you can see everything except civility in funeral. With all he loud crying and going all white, it's just all the more tragic. Some call it ancestral linkage but that's the way we are hard wired. Daily soaps take our emotions to an all new level. Don't be fooled by them. But it's true our emotions and our ways of expressing them are sometimes intimidating and scary.

2)      We, Indians are like herds of goat. We don’t form an opinion. We go with an opinion without applying our minds into it. So, that’s why Arvind Kejriwal rose to fame instantly and that is also why is fell back even more spontaneously. We are repeating the same mistake by putting all our expectations onto one man- Narendra Modi, this time. If we take a look at a different field, then in cinemas too, we can see that there is a phase for a kind of movie. 90s was the time of love stories, then came the decade for comedy, now we’re just watching black, unbathed south indian men with pot bellies being thrown like sandbags by a 50 year old hero with jet black hair. Of course exceptions occur in the midway and that is why we have come this far even. The point remains the same. We get hold of an idea and keep selling it until the validity of that idea is no longer viable.

3)      Indians are also very flexible people. You can question their reasons and most of the time you’ll end up seeing that they have started doubting their own reasons itself. Well, you can say we are influenced very easily. One moment we are with you, the next moment we can be ‘who the hell are you’? And we are very adjusting people. We adapt to every kind of situation whatever it is. Rather than raising questions we like to sit back and preach this world that we should be like water. Adjusting to every situation. Ask them why, we will tell you to become successful. Ask us what after being successful, we would become speechless. We always want some task or a deadline. That’s how we have been born and bred. To live to meet deadlines.

4)      Pretentious, rude, selfish, narcissists, prude, frustrated are the common adjectives. I would like to use something different. Recently I came across the word “impertinent” and this applies to all of us unexceptionally. We like to judge. That’s our sole hobby. And that’s what our aim for the life is. We judge even the Gods surprisingly. Ok, Lord shiva is not listening to us. Maybe Maa Vaishno Devi might help. Oh, is she also not listening to you? Why don’t you get baptised? Or don’t even change your religion. Come to the Art of living. We will teach you the life skills that you already knew all along. Or sahaj yoga? Brahmkumaris? Every person can pick a new cuisine for each new day! I digress. The best part about being an Indian is… well , there are actually two. First of all, you can ogle. And second, you can keep rubbing your nose in someone else’s business.

We are prepared with all the kinds of advices. You just name a problem man, we will have a solution. Someone else’s life is worth more importance than ours for us “the Indians”. Our self-righteous attitude, the hypocrisy and shallowness of our ideals are our forte. For every defect in us, we are ready with blame games. Why is India so behind? Well, The foreigners got far too ahead. They should have waited for us! Is the bottom line of all our responses. What baffles me the most is if we’re so open about our emotions of happiness and sorrow, what happens when we come to the point of love and affection? Why is Narendra Modi so ardent about his single status? The American president has to be portrayed as a family man to win the respect of his counterparts, similarly in France, the president’s girlfriend is a first lady. But in India with a population of 1.2 billion people, we want a prime minister who is celibate. If this is not hypocrisy then what is? Whatever it is, India is a very funny land. And I am so happy that I can whine about it on my blog.
